The Pelikaanhof in Leiden is a student complex built in 1974. Currently, nearly 500 students live here, most of whom have campus contracts. The complex is due for a large-scale renovation and sustainability upgrade. We are using this opportunity to implement a number of improvements, such as the addition of mergers to the living groups.
The work is scheduled to start in 2027. The exact starting date will be announced later.
Sustainability and Renewal of the Pelikaanhof
In recent years, DUWO has developed a design for the complex. After approval by the Supervisory Board, the search for a contractor has started. In the coming period, technical inspections will be carried out to assess the condition of the building. Students will experience little to no inconvenience from these investigations.
With the renovation, we are preparing the Pelikaanhof for the future. The building will receive additional insulation, the ventilation system will be updated, and the courtyard will be made greener. An additional indoor bicycle storage facility will be added, and the safety and accessibility of the storages will be improved. At the group level, each living group will have a shared space with a kitchen, connected to a new emergency staircase. Bathrooms and toilets will be renovated, and an extra floor layer will be installed in the rooms to reduce noise disturbance.
