Home Contents Insurance

You can take out a home contents insurance policy with DUWO for only €1.26 per month to insure the contents of your student room. Your possessions are also covered by the home contents insurance when they are in the common area of your accommodation.

As an Accommodate tenant, you must take out insurance for your personal possessions. The furniture and standard inventory are already insured through DUWO. It is not possible to take out contents insurance for your own stuff via DUWO.

How it works

As the new tenant of a student room, the home contents insurance is included in your service costs package as standard, unless you indicate that you are not interested in obtaining the insurance. If you are already renting a student room from DUWO, you can still apply for this insurance.

What is covered by the insurance?

The home contents insurance covers furniture, clothing, audio, video and computer equipment, jewellery and floor coverings in your student room, common areas and your private storage area. These items will be insured against damage caused by fire, theft after burglary, storm, rain and other weather conditions. Your insurance certificate will state the maximum amount paid per event.

Please note: bicycles, scooters, mopeds and motorcycles in the common bicycle storage area are not covered by the home contents insurance.

Important conditions for home contents insurance

  • There is an excess per event. For common areas a maximum excess applies for all insured together.
  • In principle, you will be reimbursed for the replacement costs of the damaged goods, unless their current value is less than 40% of the replacement costs. In that case, you will be reimbursed for their current value.
  • Damage should be immediately reported to the insurer (Raetsheren van Orden).

The exact amounts and full terms and conditions can be found in the insurance policy (only in Dutch) and on the insurance certificate.
