Renovation Roland Holstlaan

DUWO is preparing to start the renovation of Roland Holstlaan (house numbers 1-749) from September 2025. This page is about the design and the work to be carried out.

What’s going to happen?

We are talking about a renovation. The building will remain in its current form, but both the interior and exterior will be refreshed. To give an idea of the scope of the project, here is a general overview of the planned work:

  • Work will be carried out on the window frames, facades, and installations. Both the exterior and interior of the building will be insulated and repainted. Additionally, the bathrooms and kitchens will be renovated.
  • We are making the homes more sustainable, which will improve living comfort for residents. The building will receive new, energy-efficient installations, such as electrical systems and central heating. It will also be connected to the district heating network. As mentioned earlier, insulation measures will also be taken.
  • On the ground floor, a new common area will be created where residents can meet. To achieve this, part of the current entrance extension will be removed, and a new extension will be built for the common room.
  • Two-room apartments will be converted into independent one-room apartments, and the bicycle storage area will be reorganized.

To carry out this work, DUWO has applied for an environmental permit. Once the permit is granted, the contractor will begin construction preparations.

What does this mean for residents?

The impact of this renovation will vary for different groups of residents:

  • International students wild hardly be affected, as they will have moved out of the building before the renovation starts in September 2025.
  • A small number of residents have a regular rental contract. DUWO will contact these tenants personally to find the most suitable solution for them.

What does this mean for neighbors?

  • The demolition work is expected to start in September 2025. This will mainly involve light demolition work with minimal heavy breaking or drilling. However, some noise disturbance may occur.
  • There will be construction traffic, and part of the parking area on Roland Holstlaan will be used for a construction site, including a temporary construction office.
  • DUWO will provide further updates to neighbors as more details become available.

Moving Expense Allowance

Tenants of Roland Holstlaan are eligible for a moving expense allowance in the case of a permanent relocation. This arrangement applies exclusively to residents with a campus contract. The arrangement is indexed until 2023.
