Rijn en Schiekade 100-110 is a student complex from 1967 and is centrally located in Leiden. It is a popular student complex where students live together in groups and form small communities. This unique flat must be made future-proof. There is a need for cheap rental housing in Leiden and there is also a need for independent living space.
The complex is popularly known as 'the Bierflat'. Unfortunately, local residents regularly experience a lot of inconvenience, which, in addition to sustainability, is an additional reason to take a good look at the approach to this building. We try to discuss the approach thoroughly with residents and local residents.
There is still a shortage of rooms in Leiden, while at the same time a lot needs to be renovated. This creates extra pressure on the student housing market in Leiden. DUWO therefore tries to minimize the period during which complexes are vacant due to renovation.
Objectives of this renovation
• Structural reduction of nuisance from the balconies to the environment
• Improvement of fire safety
• Extending the lifespan of the complex
• Preservation of affordable non-self-contained units
• Adding independent rooms on the upper floors and on the ground floor
• Sustainability, improving labels from G to A
• Adjusting facilities on the ground floor.
