Uilenstede Oost wins architecture award

Last night, the design for the new buildings at Uilenstede Oost won the 1st Architecture Award Amstelveen [1e Architectuurprijs Amstelveen]. The award is an initiative of the municipality of Amstelveen, Amstelveens Nieuwsblad and dichtbij.nl.

The design of Uilenstede Oost was done by HVDN Architecten (now Studioninedots) from Amsterdam.

The design won the jury award.
The jury believes that client and architect have gone further than others would. The jury thinks the project is an example of maximum results achieved with modest means in which each design decision is made to serve an ambitious final image.

Development Campus Uilenstede
Campus Uilenstede is under large development. With the large renovation of Uilenstede a modern campus arises. 314 student houses are completed already. At the beginning of next year another 160 will be completed as well. At the end of next year the final 233 new houses will be completed. Eventually the campus gets 707 houses spread over seven residential buildings. Elsewhere on Uilenstede houses are demolished and small houses are rebuilt into bigger houses. The redevelopment of the central area begins in February 2014.
