Collaboration
What makes this student complex unique is the collaboration between fellow student housing providers DUWO and Idealis. Linda Cents, Director of DUWO Amsterdam, expressed her pride: “We are incredibly proud of this partnership with Idealis. As two student housing providers with a shared mission, we can achieve much more for the student population together. By combining our strengths through this special collaboration, we can make the best use of each other’s expertise and networks. DUWO provides the resources to create the necessary housing, while Idealis, with its knowledge of the local market, takes care of management and daily operations.”
Bart van As, Director of Idealis, agrees: “I am glad that we can offer additional rooms, which are greatly needed to meet the demand. This allows us to achieve our goal that all first-year students registered with ROOM for a room in Wageningen or Ede have housing by May 1st of the academic year. Due to our financial capacity, it was not possible to realize this complex on our own. I find the solidarity between corporations to tackle challenges together a great development in the sector.”
About the complex
The Marijkeweg 20 complex consists of 140 self-contained rooms, each with its own kitchenette and bathroom, measuring approximately 24m². In addition, there are 210 shared rooms of about 18m². This shared kitchen offers extra opportunities for interaction and community building, making these rooms highly sought after. Housemates, socializing, and mutual support contribute to social cohesion and a real sense of home, which is especially appreciated by first-year students. The complex also includes two large and one smaller communal spaces and a shared courtyard.
Sustainable
The building is sustainably heated and cooled thanks to a WKO installation and energy is largely generated by solar panels. Gas is therefore not used at the Marijkeweg. Thanks to the WKO, energy costs are also low.
