Is having a tidy and spotless home really that important? Maybe not. But you probably recognize the satisfaction of freshly changed sheets. Or the annoyance of spilled sauce in the fridge, making everything sticky. Or the time wasted searching for that one thing you need right now.
A fresh and organized home feels pretty great, doesn’t it? So take advantage of the energy boost that spring gives most people. Open those windows, air out your bedding, grab a bucket, cleaning supplies, and cloths, and get to it!
Don’t Do Everything at Once
What a spring clean means depends on your tolerance for mess. Some people shudder at a tiny dust bunny in the corner, while others don’t even notice when their kitchen is sticky or the area around light switches has turned gray.
Do the tops of the kitchen cabinets and the space between the radiators need to be spotless? Do you want to wash your curtains and even flip your mattress? Go for it—it’s your call. But a less extreme approach is totally fine, too. Don’t empty every drawer and cupboard just to scrub them later; start with the most important areas first.
A golden rule: don’t turn everything upside down at once. Getting rid of unnecessary clutter—glass, paper, or other recyclables—already makes a huge difference. Literally, but also mentally.
Keep It Simple
And you don’t need fancy window cleaner to wash your windows—dish soap or all-purpose cleaner works just fine. Vinegar is a cheap miracle worker for limescale and grease. Mix it with water, spray it on the dirty spots, and while it works its magic, you can move on to something else. Let the vinegar do the hard work for you. Why make it harder than it needs to be?
A little entertainment helps, too. A podcast, an audiobook, some sing-along tunes, or upbeat music that turns you into a cleaning whirlwind. Tackling shared spaces can actually be fun—just divide the tasks and work together. And when everything is fresh and spotless, you can head outside, hit the pub, or just relax in your sparkling home and enjoy life.
