Student from Delft 'Baas van Morgen' (Boss of Tomorrow) at DUWO

Reading time: 3 minutes

On Thursday, June 6, Fatima, a 15-year-old student from Delft, took charge of student housing provider DUWO for a day. This happened in the context of the 'JINC Baas van Morgen (Boss of Tomorrow) 2024' project, in which hundreds of students from group 8 and pre-vocational secondary education can take the seat of a CEO, director or politician for one day.

Fatima was picked up in the morning by DUWO's director Barend Kuenen and branch director Jelle van Kempen. Her day started at 8:30 am with breakfast at the Delft Town Hall, followed by a tour of DUWO, a meeting about sustainability, and a lunch at the adjacent Vakwerkhuis. She visited the new construction project on Balthasar van der Polweg and a student room on Leeghwaterstraat. The day ended with an evaluation interview in which Fatima made an impression with her question why we did not allow international and Dutch students to live closer to each other? Around 3 p.m., after an inspiring day, Fatima was returned to school.

The student said afterwards that she had a beautiful day and said: “We are doing well in the Netherlands.” This statement was immediately recorded on a tile by Fatima and director Van Kempen.
“Fatima has my number and can always contact me if she needs support, advice or help in the future,” says branch director Jelle van Kempen.

About JINC
JINC is a non-profit organization that has been committed to equality of opportunity for 20 years. JINC believes that every child has talent, even in circumstances with few role models and high unemployment. JINC connects children between the ages of 10 and 16 with companies and employees, so that they can orientate themselves on the labor market at an early age. With projects such as Baas van Morgen, lightning internships, coaching conversations and job application training, JINC helps thousands of children from group 7/8 and pre-vocational secondary education every year to develop their talents, gain more self-confidence and become more resilient.

Cooperation
DUWO strives to find a fair home for every student. Unfortunately, studying is not self-evident for all children. Sometimes the resources or options are lacking and a little extra help is needed. That is why DUWO has entered into a partnership with JINC. DUWO and JINC strongly believe in the power of young people and their potential. This collaboration, which enables young people to take a look at the organization, helps DUWO to promote equality of opportunity and provide a fair home for young people, regardless of their background. From the new school year, DUWO employees can also contribute to this project by guiding young people with a lightning internship, a coaching program or job application training.

The 'Baas van Morgen' initiative was a day full of great insights for both Fatima and the DUWO management.
