The idea is simple yet powerful: to bring students together in an easy-going and enjoyable way – right in their own building.
Student Laura van Walraven knows how intimidating it can be at first: “The first time I went to the house dinner, I went alone. I found it quite nerve-wracking, but making contact was really easy. I’ll definitely be there next time.”
The need for connection
More than 62% of students feel lonely at times, according to the Mental Health and Substance Use Monitor (RIVM/Trimbos Institute, 2023). The transition to student life and living in a new city without a network plays a significant role in this.
DUWO also recognizes the growing need for connection in its complexes. Thanks to the collaboration with Resto VanHarte, residents can meet each other in an accessible way – close to home.
Together at the table in the common room
The house dinners take place in the common areas of the DUWO complexes. For just five euros, students get a fresh, hot meal. Each event accommodates 20 to 40 participants, depending on the size of the location. Afterwards, there’s room for relaxation, such as a game night or a movie screening. In short, a fun way to get to know each other better!
