Pop-up house dinners bring students together in Leiden

Reading time: 2 min

As a landlord of student housing in various cities, including Leiden, DUWO sees a growing need for connection and social contact among its tenants. To respond to this, DUWO has entered into a partnership with Resto VanHarte, an organization that brings people together around the dining table. Together they organize pop-up house dinners for students in DUWO buildings.

Resto VanHarte and DUWO want to connect students with the pop-up house dinners. The dinners take place in the common rooms. These are the communal living rooms in the DUWO complexes. For just five euros, students can enjoy a shared meal and watch a movie or play a game together afterwards.

Pilot
The first house dinner has now taken place on April 18, in the common room of the Sigmaplantsoen in Leiden. The students were very enthusiastic and enjoyed delicious tacos and brownies, where the long beer tables invited fun conversations. The four volunteers who had cooked were allowed to eat for free as a reward. Several more pop-up dinners will be organized later this year. If the pilot proves successful, Resto VanHarte and DUWO want to expand the initiative to other locations and cities.

Common rooms
For the well-being of students, for example to prevent loneliness, it is important that there are places where students can meet each other. DUWO's common rooms are a suitable location for this and it is known that eating together is a very nice way to make that connection. Together with Resto VanHarte, DUWO wants to stimulate social interaction between residents in this way.

About Resto VanHarte
Resto VanHarte connects people at the dining table through an affordable three-course dinner (or lunch). In this way they want to create a feeling of connection and combat loneliness. The meals are prepared and served by volunteers who do their best to ensure a pleasant, relaxing evening.
