Festive Opening of the New Kolffpad Student Complex

Reading time: 2 min

On Thursday, April 25, DUWO celebrated the festive opening of the new student complex on the Kolffpad in Leiden together with residents, stakeholders and employees. The theme was 'the perfect picture', where residents took beautiful photos of the complex and the breathtaking view. All photos were exhibited in the new common room and the guests chose the final winners.

Focus on student well-being
Guest speaker Jolien Dopmeijer emphasized during her speech that the perfect picture does not actually exist and that it is much more important to focus on the 'sense of belonging', because well-being is a crucial condition for growth and success. This applies to everyone, but especially to students who are often under pressure and feel like they have to meet unrealistic expectations. DUWO shares this vision and would like to pay attention to it in various ways. It is DUWO's hope that the beautiful new common room of the Kolffpad will contribute to this endeavor and invite residents to get to know each other better.

Amenities and location
The Kolffpad, located in the Bio Science Park of Leiden, houses 289 brand new self-contained student homes. The common areas, including a game room, a study area and the common room on the ground floor, were designed with input from students. The complex is connected to district heating and equipped with solar panels on the roof, which contributes to the sustainability of the building.

Cooperation
The realization of this project was possible thanks to the good cooperation between Leiden University, the Municipality of Leiden, construction company Waal and DUWO Student Housing. DUWO would like to express its gratitude to the representatives of these parties for their valuable contributions: Fleur Spijker, Julius Terpstra, Martijn Ridderbos, Johan Krijgsman and Anneleen Lagae.
