DUWO

What is voting in?

Shared accommodation (rooms) are allocated according to co-option (also known as voting-in), which means that the current remaining residents nominate a new tenant when a room becomes available. DUWO has afforded its residents this right following consultation with residents’ representatives. In order to decide which candidate the current residents think is most suitable as the new resident, they can organise a ‘voting in’ session to become acquainted with potential new residents. Candidates do not have to be registered with DUWO to attend a voting in session. You can find the voting in advertisements on this site.

Candidates and current residents have the chance to get to know each other at the voting in session, and at the end of the evening the current residents vote in the candidate they think is the most suitable for the room. This system has the advantage of ensuring that residents in our student accommodation generally get along with each other. At a voting in session, you will have the opportunity to tell the current residents all about yourself, such as who you are, what you are going to study and why, the sports that you are interested in and those you dislike and whether or not you are planning on joining a student association.

The residents are responsible for deciding how many candidates they invite to a voting in session. At the end of the evening, the residents choose which candidate will be offered the room and then nominate this candidate as the new tenant to DUWO. The nominated candidate will subsequently be invited by DUWO to sign a rental agreement.
