Schoonmaakbeurtje kan geen kwaad, lijkt ons!Unless an agreement has been reached for DUWO to take responsibility of cleaning at your expense, you are responsible for keeping your accommodation clean. In addition to your residence, the corridors, stairwells and communal areas also need to be kept clean to reduce the chance of pests, unless DUWO receives payment to carry out cleaning responsibilities on your behalf (payment via the service costs). The technical or social warden will give you a first warning if these areas are not cleaned to a sufficient standard. Should the situation fail to improve, DUWO will hire cleaners and the involved residents will be required to pay. To avoid things going this far, it is recommended that you make clear arrangements with your flatmates.

Pests
Although a meticulous cleaning routine will make your residence and communal areas much less attractive for pests (such as mice, rats, cockroaches, silver fish or pharaoh ants), they may still pay you an unwelcome visit. Should you discover an infestation, make sure you inform DUWO immediately. We will give you all the information you need regarding pest control and either take action ourselves or call the Municipal Pest Control Department. DUWO will pay for pest control services in the cases of cockroaches or pharaoh ants, but you will be required to pay for action that needs to be taken to rid your residence of other pests.

Ventilation grates
Tenants are responsible for cleaning ventilation grates in windows and door/window frames as well as mechanical ventilation in kitchens and bathrooms. It is important that these are cleaned on a regular basis to stop them from silting up. The ventilation grates can be easily cleaned using a brush and a vacuum cleaner and the ventilation valves in kitchens and bathrooms can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or a piece of kitchen paper.

Rubbish
Check the municipality website for information regarding the collection of rubbish. The site contains all the information you need including the days on which rubbish is collected in your neighbourhood, where it can be left and at what time you can put it outside. For information regarding the collection of bulky household rubbish, you can call the municipal sanitation department. You can also deliver bulky household rubbish to the sanitation department in person. Want to know more? Click here to visit the municipal website.

(Oversized) rubbish collection at Uilenstede
A special arrangement has been put in place for the collection of oversized rubbish from Uilenstede. Twice a week, on a Tuesday and Friday, you can leave your rubbish for collection by the municipal sanitation department without incurring additional costs. When you have oversized rubbish for collection, pick up an ‘Oversized rubbish collection on Uilenstede’ form from the DUWO offices. Return the completed form to the DUWO offices no later than the day before the rubbish is due to be collected. You can then place your oversized rubbish at one of the ten designated collection points between 07:00 and 10:00 on either Monday or Friday.
You can dispose of standard domestic waste in the rubbish containers at any time, unless the containers are full. If this happens, wait until the containers have been emptied before disposing of your rubbish.
Disposing of (oversized) rubbish by placing it next to the standard rubbish containers or disposing of oversized rubbish without prior consent is punishable under the waste matter regulations set out by the Amstelveen District Authorities. You risk a €65 fine if you do not comply with these regulations.
Using (and dumping) shopping trolleys on the Uilenstede grounds is also punishable under the General Community Regulations set out by the Amstelveen District Authorities. Flouting these regulations could also result in a hefty fine!
