Resident participation
Residents form an important part of DUWO policy and DUWO view resident participation as being vital to the decision-making process. DUWO has signed a participation agreement with the following residents’ organisations: VulcanusDelft and de Algemene Bewoners Organisatie (Abo) [General Residents’ Organisation] in Delft, the Vereniging Bewoners Uilenstede (VBU) [Uilenstede Residents’ Association] in Amstelveen and the Bewoners Organisatie Opaallaan (BOO) [Opaallaan Residents’ Organisation]. A primary element of this agreement is that the residents’ organisations meet with the DUWO management on a regular basis to discuss subjects including policy and management. Next to that, there is the DUWOners, the residents' organisation for residents in the Amsterdam region, other than in Uilenstede (Amstelveen) or Opaallaan (Hoofddorp).
At the moment, these 4 residents' organisations in Delft and Amsterdam are working hard to form one major organisation.
Residents’ committees
A number of residents’ committees for individual (flat) complexes compliment the work of the residents’ organisations. These committees are appointed by the residents themselves. They represent the residents’ interests and have fixed responsibilities. The committees meet with DUWO employees at least three times a year to discuss such matters as: service costs, living environment, nuisance and (garden) maintenance.
Flat representatives
The majority of large student campuses have flat representatives or senior residents who act as contact points between residents and DUWO. They are appointed by DUWO and receive remuneration for their work.
All residents can contact the flat representatives for a range of issues including problems within the flat or a lack of clarity with regard to moving rooms internally.
